Aesop was born around 620 BC and was a slave in Samos. When he was freed by his last master, he began a life of travel, learning and teaching. He settled in Sardis where he became an advisor and diplomat of King Croseus. On a mission to Delphi, he was shocked at the greed of the Delphians and refused to give them some gold sent by King Croseus. At this the Delphians executed him as a common criminal.
