商品簡介
The play unfolds in contemporary Houston-a city pulsing with modernity yet steeped in solitude.
Daniel, a man in his forties, once admired and successful, has fallen into the grip of alcoholism. What began as a refuge has become a sentence. His wife, Christine, still loves him, but can no longer bear the agony of watching him unravel. Their teenage son, Leo, wounded and silent, watches his father with a mixture of anger and sorrow.
The first act charts the descent: Daniel loses his job after clashing with his supervisor, who treats him like a malfunctioning machine. At home, arguments with Christine grow unbearable, until she leaves with Leo. Alone, Daniel drifts through Houston's bars, eventually landing on the streets, where he meets Lewis-a wise vagabond-and Ruth, a former nurse turned alcoholic. Both live on the edge of oblivion, yet their words carry truths about fate, suffering, and redemption.
In the second and third acts, Daniel hits bottom. His body fails him, and he's taken to the hospital, where Doctor Rand and Sister Mary care for him. Amid fever and delirium, Daniel experiences a near-death vision: an Angel appears-not to judge, but to invite him to see his life through the lens of eternity. The Angel reveals all that Daniel has destroyed through addiction but also unveils a possible future: a sober life, filled with peace, service, and ultimately, love-embodied in Elizabeth, a radiant woman who will love him without condition.
This vision changes everything. In the fourth act, Daniel awakens with purpose. With the help of Arthur, a fellow member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he begins his healing journey. Reconciliation with Christine and Leo is not established immediate, but forgiveness begins to bloom. Daniel starts walking alongside other fallen men, sharing his story with humility.
Time passes. In the final scene, Daniel sits quietly in a park, reading a book. The Urban Chorus-or the Voice of his Conscience-recites verses about lives rebuilt from ruin. At that moment, a woman approaches: Elizabeth.
Their eyes meet. They recognize each other-not with the mind, but with the soul.
The silence between them holds every promise of a new life.
Thus, the play ends not with romance alone-but with redemption. Proven that by Grace, Love to God, to himself and to others we can also be redeemed by love.
