The European war ended in May 1945, after which Harry was reassigned to engineers and eventually discharged as the Pacific war concluded. He re-enlisted and served 24 years in the Army. Soon after his marriage in 1949, he was ordered to Korea where he was shot again in this left thigh, earning his third purple heart.
