The right to information, recognized as a pillar of any democracy, is seriously threatened under the military regimes of exception in West Africa. This book analyzes the situation in Niger and Burkina Faso, two Sahelian states marked by recent coups d'彋at and facing a persistent security crisis. The study highlights restrictions on press freedom, infringements of fundamental rights and the weakening of judicial and parliamentary control. In addition to these observations, the author proposes an in-depth analysis of the mechanisms for protecting the right to information, highlighting the importance of the principle of proportionality, democratic control and the mobilization of non-state actors. This work argues in favor of a structural and lasting reform, capable of reconciling security requirements with respect for freedoms, in order to guarantee transparency and citizen participation even in times of exception.
