An erection in Pakistan is a polemical tract on the male body under religious prohibition. Originally published in Urdu as a series of fugitive digital images, the text attacks the clerical manufacture of bodily fear. The author identifies the penis as the primary site of political contestation, arguing that religious authorities enforce a state of permanent flaccidity to maintain social control.
To resist this control, the author assembles a counter-history of same-sex attachment. He draws on Sufi tradition, 1930s Urdu print culture, and classical history to prove that the current moral regime is a historical anomaly. Most significantly, the text frames Pakistan's economic collapse as a sexual famine, invoking the Islamic legal principle of necessity to defend same-sex intimacy as a requirement for survival.
