Such equations describe a wide variety of nonlinear diffusive phenomena, for instance, in nonlinear acoustics, laser physics, plasmas and atmospheric physics. The Burgers equation also has mathematical interest as a canonical nonlinear parabolic differential equation that can be exactly linearised.
