民國108年是臺灣教育圈風起雲湧的一年。 這一年，十二年國教新課綱上路，其中英語文課網以「核心素養」為課程主軸，也因此連帶改變111年的大學入學方案。 自111年起，英文科只於學科能力カ測驗中（以下簡稱學測）舉辦，換言之，考生只考一次英文，而大學繁星入學及申請入學採計英文科成績之系所數向為各科 之冠，因此相較以往，學測英文成績對考生是否進入理想校系之影響，可謂有過之而無不及。 那麼，111之後的學測英文科內容有何不同呢？如何準備才是致勝關鍵呢？ 自111年起，新式學測英文科縮減了詞彙與綜合測驗之配分（各縮減5分），而增加了篇章結構（約8〜10分）與混合題（〜10分）前者往年只出現於 指考中，而後者更是前所未見的題型。此外，因應108課網，學測英文科強調其素養導向，測驗考生圖表判讀，證據運用，運輯推論等能力。 素養題目之閱讀量高，試題取材著重生活中常見的真實文本（Real-life Reading），包含廣告傳單，公私部門公告，旅遊日誌等，且經常搭配圖表及數據資料。 但值得注意的是，新式學測雖新增篇章結構與混合題，但仍以傳統閱讀測驗為主（共三篇，12題，佔24分），因此閱讀能カ之訓練仍是首要之務 。 有鑑於此，編者特別依據新式學測之配分比例撰寫此書，題型涵蓋篇章結構，閱讀測驗及混合題，讓學生熟悉三種題型並同時強化閱讀的廣度與深度。 此外，本書每個單元皆列出12個必背單字和慣用語，並設計兩大題之字彙練習題，且題型多元，讓學生不僅提升閱讀力亦同時增強其字彙力 對老師而言 ，設計素養題是一大挑戰。 一來，要找到主題與程度適合的題材不易。 二來，要編製或繪製素養題型既燒腦又耗時。 對學生而言，要在茫茫書海中找到一本題材多元，排版賞心悅目又符合最新命題趨勢的閱讀書籍，則難如登天。
