Guide for Design, Installation, and Assessment of Post-installed Reinforcements sets out the installation, design, and assessment guidelines for post-installed reinforcements and fills a much-needed gap in the literature. The technology of post-installed reinforcement is growing increasingly important since reinforcing bars are being used frequently in horizontal, vertical, and overhead applications on the rehabilitation and strengthening of existing structures. Post-installed reinforcements are also used in specific situations in new construction to simplify construction procedures and provide flexibility in design and construction. This book has its main focus on Hong Kong but sets a standard that could be followed both in the Mainland and beyond.

Candlestick technical analysis is an old trading technique that tracks the short-term price movements by employing the relationship between open, high, low, and close prices. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the predictive power of candlestick trading strategies by using the Taiwan 151 component stocks daily data for the period from 2 January 1992 to 31 December 2009. The main contribution of this thesis is using a fourprice- level approach to categorize the single-line patterns constructed by candlestick charting in a systematical manner. The approach adopted in this thesis permits us to release for the limitation of recognition in a manner not previously possible. Moreover, we not only consider transaction costs and risk but also mitigate data-snooping problems conscientiously by several appropriate methods, including the bootstrap methodology and sub-sample and out-of-sample tests. This study attempts to analyze systematically the rationale, evolution, and consequences of Chiang Kai-shek's "unity before resistance" doctrine, which was the basis of Nanking's appeasement policy. The author argues that there were a number of independent variables that influenced Nanking's attitude toward Japan: 1) the internal disintegration of China; 2) factional conflicts within the Kuomintang; 3) ineffective administration; 4) the vicissitudes of nationalism; 5) the material backwardness of China; and 6) international mediation. All of these factors were interrelated. The intervening variables were Chiang Kai-shek's personality, his patterns of political behavior, his way of ruling, and his perception of internal and external crises. By adopting the temporary appeasement policy toward Japan, Chiang hoped to gain enough time to consolidate China and his supreme leadership. Richard Wang's Ming Erotic Novellas is path breaking in its attention to a virtually ignored body of literature that certainly influenced the writing of the Jin Ping Mei, the Sanyan vernacular stories, and most likely Li Yu's fiction. Compared to other titles in the field, this is the first scholarly monograph in any language to contextualize the erotic novellas of late imperial China. Moreover, existing studies in this area have tended to concentrate on a limited number of works of Chinese erotic fiction, or have only brushed up against these works tangentially during more general discussion of Ming and Qing literature.
