隨著資訊、機械、系統工程和管理等學科的發展，特別是以行動互聯網、大數據、人工智慧等為代表的新一代資訊技術，推進了智慧製造的快速發展。 在設備的營運維護領域，為解決設備營運與維護服務的異地化、即時化和及時性等問題，設備製造或營運企業透過採集設備運行資料，並上傳至企業資料中心（或企業雲端），使系統軟體能夠對設備進行即時線上監測、控制，並經過資料分析進行預測性維護，逐漸形成了基於（行動）互聯網的維護、維修和營運（Maintenance Repair & Operation, MRO）技術服務網路和相應的資料支援環境，如產品狀態、設備狀態、環境狀態、業務營運狀態、人員狀態、社交網路資料以及客戶回饋資料等大數據資訊，並體現出全球性（互聯網連接）、即時性（工業互聯網支援的狀態檢測）和及時性（行動終端調度）的特性，使得設備全生命週期的知識能被高效和自發地產生和利用。然而，由於MRO 技術服務網路中裝備系統故障的高隨機性和維護需求的高不確定性，面向大範圍MRO 網路環境中多個不確定性的合作主體和高隨機性的設備故障，如何可靠地獲取、建模、推理和挖掘來自產品狀態、環境狀態、設備運行狀態、人員狀態、業務營運資料、社交網路資料以及客戶產品回饋資料等裝備全生命週期中的異構大數據資訊？如何利用上述資訊準確地預測設備故障和維護需求，制定合適的維護和優化策略？如何在有限服務資源下，充分利用互聯網環境下廣泛存在的共用服務資源，最大限度地回應網路維護需求，建立與客戶長期全面的合作關係？更進一步，如何透過資訊物理系統（Cyber Physical System, CPS）將維護決策回饋給製造系統，實現誤差補償、調節和回饋控制？這些問題成了智慧製造環境下MRO 技術服務網路中各個參與主體的共同訴求，需要研究面向智慧營運環境的多源異構資料高品質獲取與融合理論與方法、資料驅動的裝備及部件故障預測理論和方法、面向裝備營運網路的大規模維護決策理論、基於CPS的回饋控制方法等大數據環境下面向MRO技術服務網路的智慧預測性維護（Smart Predictive Maintenance, SPdM）理論、技術和方法。 本書系統地介紹了新一代資訊技術環境對製造業的影響、智慧製造模式下的設備維護問題，以及各種維護策略，如預防性維護、預測性維護和智慧預測性維護等；詳細地介紹了故障預測的方法體系，包括基於物理模型的故障
