商品簡介
Davies (linguistics and phonetics, U. of Leeds, UK), Haugh (languages and linguistics, Griffith U., Australia), and Merrison (English language and linguistics, York St. John U., UK) present 14 papers with their origins in the July 2007 conference, Third International Symposium on Politeness. The papers study linguistic politeness phenomena within particular settings (such as educational, medical, or legal), in relation to particular text types (computer-mediated discourse, advertising texts, and so on), and in the ongoing processual contexts of politeness in order to understand the relevance of such situational factors in the expression of politeness. The papers approach the topics both through long-standing traditions in pragmatics and sociolinguistics as well as newly emerging approaches such as corpus linguistics, critical discourse analysis, and conversation analysis. The papers are organized into sections focused in turn on institutional, interpersonal, and public settings. Annotation c2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
