The second edition of Zombie Politics and Culture in the Age of Casino Capitalism examines the American “culture of cruelty” and everyday violence, from school violence to political deceit to mass hysteria promoted by media. Equating America's obsession with zombies to a lack of hope and culture of despair, the author scrutinizes twenty-first century zombies on Wall Street and in political office who continue to promote authoritarianism and Social Darwinism, through which individuals and certain groups are considered disposable and easy prey. The author critiques the Obama administration, which espouses hope for the future, and yet has done little to change the survivalist culture that Americans have learned to live in. This book seeks to call attention to the everyday world that we live in and the politics and consumerism that define American culture. Annotation c2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
