Educational Accountability ─ International perspectives on challenges and possibilities for school leadership

Around the globe, accountability policies are expanding in scope to include the education profession. Policy borrowing from one country to another, brought on chiefly by globalization, is also gaining ground with education. The convergence of these two phenomena has greatly impacted educational systems in many countries.

This edited volume provides an opportunity to assess, reflect on, and discuss current issues surrounding accountability policies from around the globe, as well as implications on school leadership. Each case study offers a context specific look at the theory, policy and practice of accountability and inspection and their influence on school leadership. In addition, cases are intentionally juxtaposed to provide a broad perspective of regional and cultural similarities and departures, and are arranged to reflect the diasporic Chinese, Anglo, European, and Hispanic societies.

Bringing together members of the International Congress of School Effectiveness and Improvement’s (ICSEI’s) Educational Leadership Network and other highly regarded experts within the field, the book cultivates a global perspective of the challenges and possibilities for school leaders to foster school effectiveness and improvement. It will be key reading for scholars, policy makers, and current and future school leader practitioners.
