Intended for pre- and in-service classroom teachers, preschool teachers, and librarians serving children up to grade 3, this book introduces young children's literature and how it relates to healthy child development, then discusses various genres of children's literature such as poetry, picture books, traditional and modern fantasy, realistic and historical fiction, and informational texts. Each genre chapter includes profiles of several authors and concludes with activities to share with children, teaching suggestions, and annotated lists of children's books for the genre or age group discussed.
