The Structure of Thought does not merely interpret or summarize the concepts of Western philosophy. Instead, it rearranges philosophical thought from a contemporary perspective and analyzes the structures and techniques through which philosophy operates.
The author reconstructs major concepts in Western philosophy through the perspectives of thought-structure, epoch-structure, parole-operation, the operation of the signifier and signified, and processes of code and re-codification. Through this approach, philosophy is no longer treated simply as a historical sequence of theories but as a field in which the generation and operation of concepts themselves can be analyzed.
Focusing on the concepts of major philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, Spinoza, Husserl, and Freud, the book examines the structural principles through which thought is formed and the ways in which concepts relate to and operate with one another. Based on this analysis, it extends the possibilities of contemporary philosophy and thought through concepts such as simulacrum, re-codification, and cognitive algorithm.
This attempt goes beyond a conventional narrative of the history of philosophy and proposes a possible method for how philosophy may be practiced in the future. Philosophy is thus repositioned not as a discipline that merely organizes past doctrines, but as a technique of thought capable of producing new concepts.
The Structure of Thought provides readers new to philosophy with a basic framework for philosophical thinking, while offering those already familiar with philosophy a perspective from which to reread Western philosophy through a new structural lens. Ultimately, the book shows that philosophy remains a discipline capable of inventing new concepts and generating new forms of thought.
